Grammatics, Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

Last night was truly one of the greatest gigs I have ever been to. Even though it was such a sad occasion, the mood was truly electric and Brudenell was the busiest I’ve ever seen it, which is a testement to Grammatics.

Blue Roses supported, and they completely blew me away. Laura Groves has the most haunting and beautiful voice I’ve ever heard, possibly the best new act I’ve seen all year.

Grammatics played fan favourites (Swan Song was truly amazing, band and crowd as one) but the new material they played sounded pretty good. Title track of the fan-funded EP Krupt seemed to go down pretty well with the crowd but the other new song they played End Of The Commercial was Grammatics at their dramatic and melancholic best, with frontman Owen claiming to be ‘going where the love is’. And of course after the obligitory fake encore, they ended the set with Relentless Fours, not milking the last song ever one single bit. A truly magical evening from a now sadly lost magnificent band, they shall be missed.
