Manic Street Preachers – Postcards From A Young Man

(another piece for Hive, I’m on an updating streak at the minute!)

After being a fan of the Manics for a fair few years it’s difficult to be objective here, but the third single from their latest album Postcards From A Young Man burns with the passion of a band half their age. While they may not have the fanbase they once did (their last attempt was their first single in 20 years to fail to reach the Top 40), their aggressive and melodic guitar rock is a national institution that needs to be preserved. ‘Postcards’ is a fine example of this, matched with the insightful and often heartbreaking lyrics that we expect from the band.
